The Himalayan motorcycle journeys are for riders who are prepared to push mind, body and soul to the limit in order to achieve the extra-ordinary. No other transport allows a greater interaction with the surroundings, especially in India, where every nook and corner seems to manifest an astonishing new aspect of kaleidoscopic wonder that is this country: an unannounced religious procession in full colors an costumed gods; a thunderous waterfall; or just a traffic gridlock 14000 ft above sea level. The roads might not be silky nor the machines without glitches, yet motorcycling in India gives very powerful insights into life in this vast and diverse country.

Highlights for this Motorcycle Tour:
Visit the outdoor sports capital of India: Manali
Cross the second highest motorable pass in India: Tanglang La Pass (5,359 meters)
Visit the Purest Aryan race in the world in Ladakh.
Stroll in the Buddhist monasteries at Alchi, Hemis and Leh
Walk around the intricate streets and bazaars.
Ride to the last frontiers of the erstwhile British Empire

Day 2: Manali

After breakfast at the hotel visit Manali. Situated at an altitude of (1950 m), on the sidelines of the Beas River valley, Manali has great significance in Hindu culture as the Seven Sages of a Hindu legend are said to have made this town their abode. Often referred as the valley of Gods because of its close proximity with Hinduism, Manali is also known as the gateway to the great Tibetan plateau. We will explore this quintessential town and visit some of its architectural monuments. Our first and foremost visit will be to the Hadimba Temple: Built in 1533 A.D. with a superbly crafted four tiered pagoda roof, it is famous for its exquisitely carved doorway. We next visit the Manu Temple: This is dedicated to the sage Manu situated at old Manali. Our last visit will be to the hot springs at Vashisth. In Vashisth there are also old temples dedicated to the sage Vashisth and to Lord Rama. From here on we will visit the Mall for its mountain markets.
Overnight: Hotel

Day 3: Manali to Keylong: (115 km’s / 5-6 hrs ride)

We start on our first day of hard riding in the Himalayas and do some roller coaster rides over the Rohtang-La pass. Rohtang La pass stand at an altitude of 3978m on the eastern Pir Panjl range of the Himlayas. The pass connects the Kullu valley with the Spiti valley. After we cross the Rohtangla we continue riding after a brief stop at the pass and cross several villages along the Lahaul valley including, Khoksar, Sissu, Gondla and Tandi as well as the Chandra and Bhaga rivers. We arrive and check in at the hotel in Keylong.
Overnight: Hotel

Day 4: Keylong to Sarchu: (107 km’s / 5-6 hrs ride)

We begin our ride on the steel horses blazing our way towards another pass today. The Pass known as Baralachala pass is situated at a height of 4890m on the sidelines of the Zanskar range. We descend down and continue towards Sarchu situated on the state border of Himachal and Ladakh. In Sarchu we will check in at a tented camp and spend the rest of the day in exploring the plateau.
Overnight: Camps

Day 5: Sarchu to Leh: (255 km’s / 7-8 hrs ride)

Our last leg of journey of stage 01 on the National highway from Manali to Leh will start right after an early breakfast. We leave Sarchu and soon after begin to ascend the Gatta loops. The twenty one loops gradually take you to an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level. From the top of the Gatta loops we will ride to the base of Naki La pass (15547 ft) and onwards to the second pass known as Lachlung-La (16620 ft) above sea level. As we descend and ride to the Morey plains we crossover a small settlement of tents at Pang where a routine tea stop will enhance our spirits before conquering the mighty Tanglang-La. Afterwards we will drive across a vast table-land known as Morey plains which stretch for around 40 kilometers and are at an average elevation of 4000 meters. We soon hit the base of Tanglang la and begin our ascent on to the second highest motorable pass in the world. The Tanglangla pass is at a height of 5359 m above sea level. From Tanglangla we descend down into Ladakh and cross the check post at Upshi. An hour’s drive from here and we finally reach Leh and transfer to the hotel.
Overnight: Hotel.

Day 6: In Leh: (Exploring the Buddhist kingdom)

We spend the morning lazing around the garden area and reminiscing about our last three days journey. In the afternoon we will explore the bazaars dotted with fresh fruit and vegetable markets. We can also enjoy some sweet tea and savories from one of the many German and French bakeries. We will also explore the monastery of Samkar located in between agricultural fields towards the North of Leh Bazaar. Evening can be spent relaxing either at the hotel or at the Japanese built Shanti Stupa.
Overnight: Hotel.

Day 7: Leh to Dah Hanu: (162 km’s / 5-6 hrs ride)

After breakfast we will begin our next stage of motor biking over the Himalayas. Our destination as of today is a splendid region towards south-west of Leh at a distance of around 162 kilometers. A small group of villages dotted near the International border of India will unravel a community who has been living outside of the world’s influence for centuries. Inhabitated by a small Drogpa race, the villages of Dah and Beema are entirely a virtual home to the last legitimate Aryan tribe in the world. The road and landscape towards Dah is amazing. With pea-green glacial rivers, crumpled mountain sides and wonderful Gompa’s dotting the region the ride on a splendid road mesmerizes you with its beauty. We cross the lush fertile oasis village of Khaltse and turn further north towards the prize catch of Dah. We arrive in Dah after a long ride and settle here in the camp for the night.
Overnight: Camps

Day 8: In Dah (Exploring and watching)

After breakfast we visit the Drok-pa dominated region called Bima. The features of inhabitants are pure Indo-Aryan and they appear to have preserved their racial purity down the centuries. Their culture and religious practices are akin to the ancient pre-Buddhist animist religion known as Bonchos. One curious feature is their abhorrence of the cow or any of its products. They have preserved their ancient tradition and way of life partly through the celebration of the triennial Bonova festival, a celebration of harvest and partly through their songs and hymns. One of these is description of Ibex hunt, for the Ibex is especially sacred to them.
Overnight: Camps

Day 9: Dah Hanu to Alchi and Leh: (162 km’s / 6-7 hrs ride)

After breakfast we drive on the last leg of journey on stage 02 and en-route visit the monastery of Alchi. The village of Alchi is situated on the banks of the Indus River. The village is famous for the existence of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh (a national heritage) Alchi Monastery, mainly known for its magnificent and well-preserved 11th or 12th century wall paintings, all in an Indian style. Later drive further to Leh. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. In the evening enjoy Gala Dinner with our support team and say good bye to the team without whose support we would not have endured the realities of the Himalayan region.
Overnight: Hotel

Day 10: Leh

After breakfast we will transfer you to the airport to board the flight for your onward journey to back home with sweet and unforgettable memories of 'Motor Biking in Himalayas' tour escorted by Vardhman Vacations.
