Welcome to Vardhman's "Popular Markha Valley Trek"!
On arrival in Leh, you will be met and transferred by Vardhman's representative
to your hotel. Full day rest to acclimatize yourself. Evening go for a brisk
walk to stretch your body.
Overnight: Hotel
Day 02: Leh
Morning after breakfast proceed to visit Shanti Stupa, Sankar monastery
and Leh palace.
Shanti Stupa (Japanese Peace Pagoda) : Shanti Stupa/Japanese peace pagoda
is build by a Japanese religious organization headed by Head monk Nakamura
with the help from the organization and local people. It is situated at a
hill top in Cahngspa village providing a bird eye view of the Leh town and
the surrounding mountain peaks. Architecturally it has the Japanese touch
with small clean rooms on the side for mediators and the main Japanese shrine
at the entrance.
Sankar Gompa & Village : A relatively modern monastery, it is closely
associated with the Spituk monastery and served as the residence of the late
head priest-Kushak Bakula. A number of gold icons are to be found here.
Overnight: Hotel
Day 03: Leh -Spituk - Zinchen
Morning after breakfast drive by motor car for Spituk Trekking point,
from there we start the trek till Zinchen which is about 4 to 5 hrs trek through
the beautiful landscapes. On arrival check in at camp for an overnight stay.
Overnight: Camp
Day 04: Zinchen - Kandala Base
Early in the morning shortly after breakfast, start trekking from Zinchen
towards Kandala base. Enroute, the trail meanders past pristine village of
Rumbak. As you near Yurutse, you have to cross a bridge. You get to halt for
lunch and thereafter head further towards Kandala Base where you will camp
for the night.
Overnight: Camp
Day 05: Kandala Base - Shingo
Morning after early breakfast, start moving towards the top of the Kandala
pass, which will hardly take 3 to 4 hrs to reach on top. Easy descent towards
village Shingo that will take another couple of hrs. On arrival at Shingo
check into your Camp for an overnight rest.
Overnight: Camp
Day O6: Shingo - Skiu
The trek that follows after breakfast is very pleasurable and involves
easy trail. Amidst the breathtaking gorges and natural vistas set as perfect
backdrops, walk for 3 to 4 hours. Finally, arrive at your campsite in Skiu
for an overnight rest.
Overnight: Camp
Day 07: Skiu - Markha
The trek continues in the morning immediately after breakfast. The trail
runs parallel to Markha River. Lush vegetation, stunning flora and fauna offers
you awesome visual treat on the way. You halt for a while to lunch and thereafter
head for your destination. 6-7 hours of trekking finally ends in Markha.

Day 08: Markha - Thochungtse
Trek (6-7hrs walk)
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast walk past Markha towards Thochungtse.
Several descents bring you close to a monastery. Further ahead the trail crosses
a bridge and enters traditional villages of Humlung and Hankar. Get few minutes
of cultural immersion as you talk to local people who you will find very friendly
and hospitable. This culturally-stimulating journey progresses towards the
destination. 5-6 hours of trekking finally concludes in Thochungtse. Check
into your camp for an overnight rest.

Day 09: Thochungtse - Nimaling
Today is basically the shortest day of the trek, so after late breakfast
trek begins for Nimaling pasture, it will take hardly couple of hrs to reach
at campsite. Nimaling is one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh
(4,700mtres), dominated by the gorgious peak Kangyatse (6,400mtres). After
lunch one can visit the nomads living there with the animals (yaks, sheep's
and horses).
Overnight: Camp
Day 10: Nimaling - Kongmaru La (Pass) - Shang Sumdo
After a leisurely breakfast start walking for the Kongmaru la (5,200mtres).
To reach on the top it will take 2 to 3 hrs time. On reaching the top one
can see the mindblowing view of Karakoram ranges and the valley of Leh and
other villages. Start the descent down towards the gorges and keep walking
on the left bank to Chumiktangmo. Arrive at Shang Sumdo and check into the
camp for an overnight rest after 8 to 9 hrs walking.

Day 11: Shang Sumdo - Martselang - Leh
Continuing your descent, pass some of the highest located houses in the
valley before descending into another section of rocky gorge. Along the way
pass through the village of Martsylang, it's just about 3-4hrs walk. You will
be picked up at Martselang and drive back to Leh. Upon arrival check into
your hotel for an overnight stay.
Overnight: Hotel
Day 12: Leh - Delhi
After breakfast you will transferred to the Leh airport to board the flight
to Delhi with sweet and pleasant memories of your "Popular Markha Valley
Trek" escorted by Vardhman Vacations.
